Umsebenzi ulinganise ukwakheka kwezinto ezisenhlabathini yenyanga ezindaweni zokuma kwe-rover ngokubeka ithuluzi le-APXS eduze nendawo ukuze lithole izilinganiso nokuyibuyisela emuva ngenkathi ihamba. I-X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy kanye ne-Particle Induced X-ray Emission amasu asetshenziswa ukuze kutholakale futhi kulinganise izakhi ezihlukahlukene ezinkulu nezincane ezikhona enhlabathini yenyanga, njengeSi, Mg, Al, Fe, Ca, kanye noMn, Cr, Ti, I-Ni, K, Na, kanye, S njll. Ngokukhanyisela indawo yenyanga nemithombo yayo ye-Cm-244, i-APXS iqophe imigqa ye-X-ray yesici yazo zonke izici ezinkulu nezincane. I-APXS yenze ukuhlola okungu-23 endleleni ye-rover futhi yathola i-X-ray spectrum endaweni ngayinye.

Amaminerali asindayo acwila futhi akhe izingqimba zangaphakathi njengoba i-magma iphola. Ngesikhathi esifanayo, amaminerali alula antanta futhi akhe uqweqwe lwangaphandle lweNyanga.  

Ukuba khona okuvelele kwe-Ferroan Anorthosite (FAN) enhlabathini yenyanga endaweni ye-rover landing site, okuwumphumela oyinhloko walolu cwaningo kusekela umbono we-Lunar Magma Ocean (LMO). Ukuba khona kwamaminerali acebile nge-magnesium kuphakamisa ukuxuba namaminerali kusuka kungqimba lwangaphakathi.
